Fringealicious
Oh, it's Fringe time again! Woo! Aren't you excited? I am.

I'm writing this post a little late. The Festival actually began on Friday. Every year I tell myself that I'll attend all these great shows and then only end up going to a couple. I'm already bummed that I missed The Jingle Man this past weekend since it was written by one of my online acquaintances and I've heard good stuff about his work. It just wasn't possible for me to go. Damn.

The main show I'm pimping, of course, is my brother's:

Trad by Mark Doherty
Directed by Tom Reing

Performing at Mum Puppettheatre
115 Arch Street, Philadelphia

September 12–15 @ 7:00pm

Inis Nua extends the run of Trad @ Mum Puppettheatre after the festival:

September 19-22 @ 7:00pm

Please call 267 474 8077 for tickets for these dates.
Tickets: $15

An Irish fable about tradition in a mad place, Trad is the hilarious tale of hundred-year old Thomas and his improbably ancient Da. When Thomas reveals that he once fathered a son in a long ago fling, the pair sets off across the Irish countryside to find the unknown child, with nothing more than a hobble and a limp to help them. Written by Mark Doherty and directed by Tom Reing, Trad continues Inis Nua’s tradition of bringing gritty contemporary work from Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales to the Fringe and Live Arts Festivals. From the company that brought you Crazy Gary’s Mobile Disco (2006), Tadhg Stray Wandered In (2005), and A Play on Two Chairs (2004). Performers: Charles DelMarcelle, Jared Michael Delaney, Mike Dees

I'll be attending the show on Friday Sept. 14 (thanks for the correction, Chris!), and while I know a lot of you will be off camping, I'd love to have a theatre buddy. Any of you non-campers out there up for a night of culture, fun, and drinking post-show? Drop me a comment!

Other shows I'm going to try to see (but it will be tricky with school starting up):

Industrial Improv, natch. (I'm hoping to make the 9/9 show, any takers?)
Flamingo/Winnebago, since it just sounds fascinating. (If I go, it would be this Friday)
Rare Bird Show (Hi, Matt! Saturday, if I can squeeze it in. Questionable.)
Religion is Retarded
I'd love to see the Sonic Dances, but I don't think I'll make it.

I crack myself up. I love how optimistic I am, AS IF I HAVE ANY TIME TO DO ALL THIS. Anyway, I'm giving it the college try. One thing I am sad about with this year's Fringe is how J.J. is unable to do the photography like years past. He's an amazing artist, I can't say enough good things about his work. Seeing his depictions of the Fringe was always one of my favorite parts of the festival. Still, boy's gotta eat. I know that he was never able to really make a living wage doing the festival photos. J.J. is taking part in the Open Studio Tours at the end of October, I highly recommend seeing his stuff. I know I've already marked my calendar.

Azuka's "Sweetie Pie" (written by & starring Madi Distefano) was FANTASTIC. Showing at Plays & Players all through the festival.

I don't know what else we're seeing, but I'm def. going to Antislan...

Yo, 8K!! The N Crowd has a show Friday at 10 pm, and so close to the Mum. Even if you don't come see the show, you should drink with us after.
Notes for Katie (most of which also serve as plugs for me):
1) Sugar Mom's has $2 Yard's Extra Special Ale for the Fringe (2 pm- 8 pm, I believe)
2) N Crowd (short form improv), Actor's Center, Friday the 14th, 8 PM (I won't be there) and 10 pm (I'll be there)
3) Improv Cagematch, tonight (Thursday), Industrial vs. Men About Town, at The Adrienne, 10 pm
4) Machine World Gospel (not improv): THURSDAY/FRIDAY/SATURDAY at The Performance Garage, 1515 Brandywine, 8 pm. Funny.
