Coming to terms
Gary cornered me about it the other night.

"I think you're just fooling yourself," he told me.

"I'm not," I responded.

"But you are. I hear you all the time."

"You hear me? Oh, god." I was mortified.

"No, that's my point," he explained. "I hear you laughing. I hear you talking. I don't hear other things."

"So?"

"So, I'm saying that—"

"Look, I know what I'm doing. I'm not fooling myself. And when I'm ready to call it something else? I'll call it something else. Until then, I know that I feel good, I know that my life is full, busy, and happy."

"Fine."

"Fine."

"But you're fooling yourself."
