It's TARDIS Time!
Stephanie, who is much like my dealer when it comes to British pop culture, delicious vegan foods, good wine, cute dogs, and silliness, introduced me to Doctor Who. I sort of thought that it would just be this thing that we occasionally watched together; an excuse to hang out and drink wine and listen to some hot accents. Which, you know, it is. But I didn't expect to be this into it. I should really know better. Will I never learn? I'm the Beeb's bitch.

It's science fiction, obviously, and dorky and fun in that respect, with aliens and weird-looking creatures and sonic screwdrivers. But more than that, it's written quite well with lots of thought behind the wowwee geeky sci-fi stuff. Much commentary on companionship, grace, the complexity of relationships, need, loss, emotional development, etc. Oh, and it's funny. And when it needs to be, it can creep the ever-living shit out of you. It's terribly well-written, this show, and I've kind of fallen in love with it. I've also fallen into fan girl swoons over the relationship between the Ninth Doctor and Rose, which, from what I understand, is kind of a taboo for those in the hard core Doctor Who fandom. Whatever. I don't care.

Last night Stephanie and I gathered for Thai avocado deliciousness, really good wine, and possibly the best three episodes of the series so far.

Is it wrong that I sort of want Chris Eccleston to pop up in my life and whisk me away through space and time in the TARDIS?

Fuck it. If it's wrong, I don't want to be right. I can't believe it's taken me this long to get into this show.

I also can't believe I just spent an entire post gushing about Doctor Who.

What is this Thai avocado deliciousness you speak of?

Stephanie cooks it. It will make your tastebuds sit up and sing. It contains tofu, avocado, green beans, coconut milk, curry, and a sprinkle of awesome.

Oh, wait. Stephanie posted the recipe ages ago. Make it for your friends. They'll thank you. (FYI, we ate it topped on rice, not noodles, and not with the veggie fried rice, which I am sure is delicious)

I left you a big long comment full of awesome, and Blogger is being a bugger and apparently killed it.

I've been a Whovian since I was BORN, and the new ones are great! Right now I am just waiting for the BBC to release the Christmas episode and then the new season so we can download them every week. We're talking some serious withdrawal here. I adored Chris Eccleston, but now... DAVID TENNANT ROCKS MY UNIVERSE. And my sister and I are COMPLETEY in love with... oh but you're not there yet are you? Let me know when you get to season three... We used to record the old episodes on VHS (how De'Losii -deh-lows-eye) is that? Peter Davison was a total babe when I was 14.

You know, I see no problem with treating each and every Whosday as a holiday. I mean, there's awesome food, excellent wine, top-notch dog-cuddling and YOU. So, I say it's a party. HOORAY FOR WHOSDAYS!

I have to admit that, while Capt. Jack Harkness turned me off at first with his smarm, I'd warmed to him by the end of those two episodes. Which is good, because he's apparently in the last three episodes of series one (NOT THAT I WAS ON JOHN BARROWMAN'S WEB SITE TODAY OR ANYTHING, FINDING DOZENS MORE REASONS TO LOVE HIM.)

P.S. Your favorite dog is very, very sick. But he seems to be doing a little better now, and he's getting groomed tomorrow. So hopefully he'll be healthy and clean on Whosday.

Ugh! Harkness drives me crazy.

I guess I have a problem with an "American" saying "Eeee-strogen" (like in the first episode of Torchwood). Or that he has decided to channel Tom Cruise.

I'll give him time. Maybe.

Bingo, Renee. I think the reason he bugs me is because he reminds me of Tom "I trimmed my bangs with a Flowbee!" Cruise. And he was trying to woo Rose like an oversexed frat boy, and NO ONE GETS BETWEEN ROSE AND THE DOCTOR! Cram it, Harkness.

I'm trying to reserve judgment, because everyone on the internet is all squee-rific over him and his hotness, so I'm assuming in these last 3 episodes of the season he becomes fabulous somehow. Meanwhile, I'm not gelling with the hotness thing. Give me big ears and that northern accent (lots planets have a north!) any day.

Nina - My earliest Doctor Who memories are as a seven-year-old falling asleep to it on the couch late Saturday nights with my dad post Brit-com watching. So I got some retro in me.

I am very torn about the second season. I am so sad about losing Eccleston who is totally my new boyfriend (SHUT UP, I'M ALLOWED TO HAVE IMAGINARY BOYFRIENDS), but everyone is raving about David Tennant and deep down I know I am going to adore him as well. *Sigh* So many pretend boyfriends, so little time.

Stephanie - Whosday is my favorite day of the week! I love Whosday! And uh, as I mentioned above, I'm a little taken with Eccleston. NOT THAT I AM OBSESSING OVER HIM LIKE A SWOONY SEVENTH GRADER OR ANYTHING. Christ, I'm hopeless.

Pet Rustin for me, OK? I'm very concerned.

Jen - Hi!
