My ass belongs to grad school
It's official: I am grad school's bitch. Grad school owns my ass. The workload, while challenging, interesting, and ultimately rewarding, is quite large. No duh, right? While I knew what I was getting myself into when I began this endeavor, actually living it is another thing. I may or may not be a raving lunatic by the time December rolls around. Grad work coupled with a full time job, not to mention a life is nothing short of exhausting. I am getting very familiar with the phrase, "I can't (insert activity here), I have class," or other variations that end in "I have to do school work," or "I'm in the process of slowly and deliberately losing my mind." Take a look at everything I have to do between now next week's classes:

  • Read 3 chapters of our text book

  • Create and begin posting in a blog created specifically for my Writing for the Web Class (don't worry, I'll give you all a link when it's ready)

  • A web writing experiment wherein I take something like, say, my coffee maker instructions and rewrite them for the web

  • Assemble the notes from my class and make an outline of key points and email it to my professor

  • Write a 7-10 page draft of my autobiography piece

  • Continue writing in my class journal for 20 minutes each day

  • Read a book of my choosing and write a one page book review

  • Create a visual piece of art that reflects the influences in my life that affect my writing

Phew, right? Keep in mind I am only taking two classes. Also keep in mind that I am trying really hard to do well in all my classes -- I want to graduate cum laude. 'Cause I missed it by two tenths of a point in college and I'm a nerd and I want this for myself. If you're a friend of mine, please don't feel like I'm blowing you off, because I'm not. I'm just swamped with crap to do. See you guys in December though. Because then? Will be when I am drinking my face off.

Don't forget the lessons you learned in college, learn as much as possible but cheap out when you need to. For example, don't read a new book for the report, write on something you already read.

Do you have a laptop? If so, bring it to class and write directly into an outline form.

Journal entries... I had a class like that, we had to reflect on the class each week - I did two batches of entries, each before the due date. I reflected and wrote and got stuff out of it because I gave each topic a rethink but I didn't use time daily to do it. Since you need to do a daily one, I suggest doing it once a week - you blog already so you really should be good at writing something. I do most of my reading one night a week by turning off the tv for an hour and that usually covers it. You can do it, I believe in you.
